Ministries 2017-12-04T06:22:11+00:00

Everyone needs identity.

Everyone needs community.

Everyone needs help.

At Refuge Church we look to Jesus for faith, hope and purpose. You’ll notice that we are a casual, multi-generational group. Our ministries often target specific groups, but our hope is that different ages will mix together to build a real community. You can always check out our calendar to see everything else that’s going on.

Ministries @ Refuge include:

Men, Women & Co-ed Adult Gatherings

The church is not the building. The church is a called out group of people who have the opportunity to connect with each others lives and live as the family of God. At Refuge Church we are passionate about connecting and sharing in gospel living. And that’s why you’re reading this, right? To do more than just religious activity? To be a part of something bigger than yourself? Real life change happens when people invest in each other in a small group environment. Our goal is to see every member of Refuge in a community relationship; connected to others so that we all can GROW in the faith.

NewKIDSWe named our church “refuge” but God is also described as our “fortress”, in whom we take our refuge. Our Children’s Ministry reflects this theme.

During our Sunday Services, we offer classes from Nursery (1-24 months) through 6th grade that reinforce the central role of Jesus in the lives of our children. Our three primary values are that FORTRESSkids be:

  • Bible Based – we create age-appropriate lessons for all our kids.
  • Safe – your kids are important to us, so we do everything we can to keep them safe. All of our volunteers have had thorough background checks, and our check-in / check-out system is secure and monitored.
  • Fun – we do our best to show that faith in Jesus doesn’t just change eternity … it makes every day better. We do special events and activities, like our VBS, Spring Break activities and more.

Check-in begins Sunday at 9:45 and runs concurrent w/10am service. If you have any questions, please contact info@findrefuge.com.

strongholdwebStronghold Student Ministries

The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. – Psalm 18:2

Teens get together to study the Bible and apply what it says to their lives. Led by our elders and deacons, we treat junior high and high school boys and girls as young men and women, not talking down to them but calling them up to maturity and a strong foundation. Yes, there is fun:)

Presently, we have a youth night that regularly meets Sundays at the church at 6:45pm – 8:45pm and includes dinner together.

Check out our calendar or email us for info on additional events, camps, and opportunities to deepen our knowledge of God, grow in faith, and build stronger relationships with one another. For more information or any questions please contact info@findrefuge.com

Film & Theology

Cinema is a modern day pulpit, reinforcing ideas through narrative about what it means to be a hero, a villain, living in this world today or living in a fantasy world that reflects our issues through metaphor and allegorical parallels. Instead of avoiding secular culture and the stories in popular entertainment, we believe we should engage them head-on in a way that lets us enjoy ALL experiences as worship, connected to our growth in God and loving the world around us. Pastor James Harleman hosts the website Cinemagogue, but also holds monthly film viewings at Refuge Church and unpacks the film’s narrative themes afterward with a brief message.

Check out cinemagogue.com and the related Facebook page for events and other resources.

Missions & Outreach

Many verses define our heart for mission and outreach. These are key:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” – Matthew 28:19-20

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” – Matthew 22:36-39

>Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. – James 1:26-27

We have a great commandment and commission that are coupled with compassion. Suffice to say, a percentage of our weekly giving goes to support missions and outreach. We also have a “Deacon’s Fund” that goes to supplement support requests for members and neighbors, as well as the missions below that are dear to the heart of our congregation. Every year we review how we support local and global outreach. We also take offerings for special needs and host special events as the Spirit leads us.

James Rayment w/CRU

James works with Islamic Community on campus at the University of Washington and surrounding Seattle area, bringing the good news to bear on issues of faith, religion and relationships. See James’ heart and mission below:

The Nourishing Network

NN_color_FESD

If we support bringing the good news to junior high and high school children, we also know that the “Bread of Life” has a heart to see their physical needs met now, loving our neighbors and especially underprivileged kids. The Nourishing Network partners with our local School District to serve as a weekend meal program for the district’s homeless and low-income families. We collect food, do drives and encourage participation.

The Cunninghams w/Steps of Justice

We focus first on those in need in our own area, but understand we have the means to impact things globally. Steps of Justice is a justice based organization that partners with local churches, communities, and activists to bring awareness, education and practical steps that help us engage in serving the poor and oppressed of the world. They build houses for those in need, host trips and more. We currently support efforts in Cambodia.
