REFUGE Weekly 11-18: Comfort & Joy

Your Weekly Guide to REFUGE connections and content!
Use this to catch up, share links, invite others, and more!
For a weekly word from the Pastor, “Your REFUGE Reflections” comes later this week.

“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” – Deuteronomy 31:8

Important Highlights…

Friends, as we prepare today’s newsletter we learned that former Refuge member Barbie Poole has passed away. Her daughter Melissa posted the news a few hours ago. She was a blessing to many, including so many members of our church family, and – even as her daughter speaks so lovingly of the assurance of her new residence, in the house of our heavenly father – her absence here will surely bring sorrow and require the Spirit’s comfort. Your prayers for family and friends are appreciated as they walk through this next season. Thank you – Pastor James

  • Sunday we also said farewell to member Thea Rairdon as she and family move to Idaho this weekend. We were able to pray over her on Sunday and ask for God’s blessing: to see our sister’s Sunday sendoff, click here.
  • As we enter a season of ADVENT together, this Sunday we will decorate the church building after service. And we need your help! Please email james@findrefuge.com if you can help! We will provide pizza and refreshment for those able to linger and assist.
  • It’s the LAST Sunday for Operation Christmas Child! Don’t forget your shoebox with all the trimmings!

For details, check out the website HERE.

  • BAPTISMAL will be set up for December 5th – a new member is getting baptized! If you or someone in your household may need baptism, email james@findrefuge.com

  • TITUS Chapter 2: Elder Ben Keller
…wherein we look at how our conduct as different demographics of believers directly impacts the world’s view of our “doctrine”… a word that sometimes has a strange reception and connotation – even amongst Christians – for which we may need to repent.

10am Service

Sermon:  TITUS chapter 3 – Pastor James Harleman
Join us for song, scripture, prayer, confession, creeds, and more as we finish this 3-week journey through the Book of Titus and the early instructions for Jesus’ church and how this informs us today AS the church. Learn “who was Titus” here.

We’ll also be welcoming 3 new member households to our church during service, confessing what it means to be a Christian and a member of Christ’s Church. A joyous day to hear and speak what it means to belong to God.

ALSO 10am: Children’s Church

Bible Story: God Calls Samuel

Big Idea: God knows us by name and calls us, so we can listen for His voice.

Memory Verse: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me.” John 10:27 (NIrV)

God had a plan and a purpose for Samuel. He called Him to lead and to serve. You may not hear the audible voice of God the way Samuel did – but He is calling you, too. He has a plan and a purpose for you. He intends to use the gifts, abilities and passions He’s given you for His glory and the good of others. And He has a plan and purpose for your children. He created them with a vision for their lives. Isn’t that amazing? He calls each of us by name – with a plan and for a purpose

*P.S. – a Note about COVID-19 and related issues:
Regarding ongoing concerns, we are asking congregants to remain informed and follow individual conscience in regard to masks and guidelines. We assume some will be masked at services while others are not: this is an opportunity to extend grace, hospitality, avoid shaming and judgment, and model Christ-like dignity, patience and respect for one another. Thank you!
